Hi, I’m Marc Richards a Bristol-based designer originally from Penzance in the deepest, darkest corner of the UK (minus about 10 miles). I have, for as long as I can remember, had an obsession with colour, shapes and image making in any form. Be it with paints, pencils, digital, print, words or music - I'll have a go!
To Begin at the Beginning
A love for art was instilled from an early age. My grandad was an exquisite portrait artist, and as a kid I would often try to impress him with my own sketches or poor reproductions of his. He was always encouraging and I have a lot to thank him for.
BSc(Hons) Web Design
Bristol UWE - First Class Honours
In 2014 I graduated from Bristol UWE's Web Design(BSc) with a First Class Honours and have since set about making my way in the crowded, pixelated world of web and digital illustration. A world that I absolutely adore. I learnt so much from my 3 years at UWE, but it quickly became apparent that my skills were heavily set in the front-end design and creative processes. Skills which I have been able to build upon and strengthen to become a more rounded designer! I loved the psychology of human-computer interaction and interaction design principles which have stood me in good stead for my career thus far.
Web Designer
Funky Pigeon (2014 - 2020)
Fresh out of University, I landed a job as a Junior Web Designer in 2014. As a versatile designer, I have was responsible for the creation and maintenance of compelling product landing pages that were able to elevate user experience alongside evolving brand guidelines. My expertise with Adobe Creative Suite enabled me to craft visually impactful lifestyle imagery and banners by blending product photography and stock visuals, driving engagement across web and app platforms.
Having dropped the ‘Junior’ label, the role evolved and it became my sole responsibility to create digital marketing material. Primarily focusing on daily BAU emails, but also creating graphics for Social Media and Affiliates campaigns.

Funky Pigeon (2020 - Present)
My versatility in designing for multiple channels meant that I was able to move to the marketing team. As design lead, I successfully managed a team of designers while collaborating closely with the Campaign Manager and CRM Executive to deliver cohesive and results-driven marketing campaigns. I spearheaded the design and execution of CRM email campaigns, including BAU, reminders, and trigger emails, ensuring they aligned with the brand's identity and were delivered efficiently.
During a comprehensive rebrand of the company, I played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity, maintaining consistency across all channels. Working alongside Brand Executives, I developed seasonal branding for web, app, social media, and direct mail, adhering to strict guidelines.
I love data. It tells it like it is. So I’m always keen to optimise designs wherever I can. I have implemented A/B testing strategies that improved click-through rates and significantly boosted conversions, as well as maximize the role of landing pages for campaigns, competitions, and giveaways, achieving measurable success in user engagement.
A vital part of my role has been prioritising cross-functional collaboration to ensure marketing efforts aligned with overarching company objectives.
